For this podcast series, we spoke with leaders from across the bedding industry to hear what they are doing to support and motivate their teams and themselves during this uncertain time. What are they doing to keep their employees safe? How has their approach to leadership evolved?
In this episode, we talk with Lisa Tan, chief marketing officer of Reverie. Before any stay-at-home orders went into effect, the innovative company was already well-prepared to transition a lot of their operations to work from home. So over the past few weeks, the focus for Reverie has been on maintaining good communication across all of the teams. For Lisa, there have also been unexpected silver linings of this situation—including being home and staying in touch with her family more. There are benefits, she explained, to being forced to step back, stay home and reprioritize so many aspects of life. As the company begins to plan ahead for the future, this empathetic mindset has helped shape their approach.
“I think encouragement and grace are really important right now. We have to give each other and ourselves a bit of grace. So things that normally would make me, with a type A personality, frustrated, I’m really trying to let go of. And I think the other big thing is that there are a lot of silver linings, and we’re trying to appreciate those every day…I think, as the next phase starts to roll out, where there is a loosening of some of the restrictions and retail stores start to open up again — I think we all have to be understanding and empathetic. At Reverie, our goal is to support in every way possible our retail partners and team members and making sure we’re prioritizing health and safety and wellbeing, but also really understanding the changing needs as they progress over time.”
