Palmpring Introduces Crib Mattresses
Los Angeles-based, Palmpring has introduced a hypoallergenic, organic coconut fiber and natural latex crib mattress. Covered in organic cotton and natural wool, the mattress wicks water and dissipates heat resulting in a cool, dry and bacteria free mattress.
“We are so proud to introduce the new crib mattress to discerning parents seeking safe, healthy bedding products for their babies,” states Camilla Kim, CEO of Palmpring USA.
The standard-size crib mattress includes a 2” layer of coconut fiber adhered to a 2” layer of natural latex covered with a layer of cotton ticking and closed with a cotton and wool padding on each side of the mattress. With padding on both sides, the mattress can be flipped allowing for two variations of firm support.
Palmpring derives its natural latex from organic rubber trees in India, where the natural rubber is extracted over a period of months and then the rubber is transformed into high-density foam using natural resin without the use of chemicals. The latex provides support and a spring-like feel.
“There is no off-gassing from our natural latex foam so no chemicals are being released into the air or touching the baby’s body,” Kim adds. “Plus the latex we use is resistant to germs and bacteria growth.”
The coconut fibers Palmpring also come from India where the coir, the fiber from coconut husks, is coated with natural rubber resin. The rubber resin allows the fibers to retain a resilient quality that does not crush, tear, or break down over time. (This differentiates the coconut used in a Palmpring mattress from the coconut used in say a doormat.) The treated, high-density fibers are among the densest available, and also 99% germ-resistant.
A specialized bonding technique adheres the coconut fiber layer and natural latex foam layers together.
Palmpring has achieved prestigious certifications from Germany’s Eco Umweltinstitute and LGA Inspection Agency, as well as from the Hohenstein Textile Testing Institute, which approves that Palmpring products meet the human-ecological requirements of the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 product class established for baby articles. In addition, Palmpring products have obtained the ISO9001–a certificate of quality of assurance–as well as the ISO14001–a certificate of environmental management system and evaluation.
