Kingsdown Previews Technologically Advanced “Sleep Smart”
Kingsdown, Inc., unveiled a new Sleep Smart sleep system at the Las Vegas World Market Center yesterday. The advanced mattress and sleep system uses technology to “read” a sleeper’s body and create the most individualized sleep surface available in the industry. Engineered using research from the Sleep to Live Institute, the new three-model collection is unlike any other mattress we have seen.
The first “interactive”, patented, sleep experience, Sleep Smart mattresses are designed to monitor movements, understand pain, ease pressure, track sleep patterns, and even gently wake a sleeper. Kingsdown’s Scientific Measurement And Response Technology (S.M.A.R.T) sensors automatically trigger air cylinders that slowly expand or contract to create optimal comfort and support throughout the night. The adjustments occur, regardless of sleep position. The mattress not only adjusts to sleeping patterns and movements, it provides graphical sleep reports showing the amount of time slept, how well the sleeper slept, and how their sleep patterns have changed over time.
“For years Kingsdown has been known for its innovative use of research and technology to help consumers select mattresses that address their personal sleep preferences and provide a great night’s sleep. With the introduction of Sleep Smart we have taken the ‘Art of Sleep Science’ to the next level and developed a mattress that actually thinks for you,” said Kingsdown President and CEO Frank Hood. “Where most mattresses use passive technology – meaning that they don’t adapt and change with you – Sleep Smart uses active technology to optimize sleep. This new collection will forever change the way we think of going to sleep.”
Through the use of the optional Sleep Smart “Care Center” app, sleepers create a profile including height, weight, gender, and preferred sleep position. After a few nights, the mattress learns individual sleep patterns and creates a “signature” or “fingerprint” for each sleeper. The bed identifies parts of the body in pain and uses the information to soothe those areas each night. As a body changes – due to injury, pregnancy, or age – Sleep Smart changes, adjusting itself to meet individual sleep needs for a few days, months, or years. The end result is improved sleep night after night.
“Finally consumers can bring good technology into the bedroom! Sleep Smart uses actigraphy to analyze an individual’s sleep patterns and automatically adjusts itself to provide the comfort and support needed for a good night’s sleep,” said Director of the Sleep to Live Institute, Dr. Robert Oexman, D.C. “The system’s optional app, which allows consumers to take an active role in their own sleep progression, is designed to track data and create a sleep diary which can be sent to sleep specialists for evaluation and suggestions on additional ways to solve sleep problems.”
The mattress’ unique construction features six adjustable zones – three comfort and three support. Sleep Smart integrates pocketed coils, air pockets, and foam to create an unparalleled sleep solution for personalized comfort, support every night.
Sleep Smart’s interactive point-of-purchase display is just as innovative as the mattress itself. In addition to a visual demonstration of how the mattress and app work, AVA – a computerized, hologram-like avatar – greets consumers and provides them with basic information and benefits about the sleep system. The script and app can be tailored to include retailer messaging while providing retail sales associates a creative way to introduce the product.
