Southern California-based bedding manufacturer Diamond Mattress announced that it will donate mattresses and masks to support relief efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition to producing and donating fluid-proof mattresses and organic cotton masks, Diamond is making them available for purchase at no profit. There are seven types of beds, five of which are ideal for use in healthcare settings because they are durable, fluid-proof, stain resistant, antimicrobial, antifungal and flame-proof. Diamond also offers quick shipping nationwide. Diamond has designed several mask styles for general protection use; they are not N95 masks.
“We’ll make donations based on our evaluation of greatest need among the organizations we’ve been in contact with, and we’re also working with organizations and individuals looking to purchase them at cost from us because they want to donate these items to their network,” said Shaun Pennington, Diamond president.
Now deemed an essential business to produce beds and masks for hospitals, healthcare facilities and shelters, Diamond Mattress has reopened after being closed since California’s stay-at-home order issued March 19.
Pennington and his team had been working mostly through online meetings and phone calls to get authorization to reopen for the purpose of manufacturing beds and masks for the relief effort.
Essential personnel have returned to work to produce orders, and company officials said necessary supplies and procedures are in place to follow CDC guidelines to ensure health and safety.
Pennington added, “Those of us who can are working from home. We’ve been proactive in prioritizing the health and safety of our team and communicating internally and with our customers through this health crisis and business disruption. We will weather these difficult times as a team as we also remember to take care of each other and our neighbors.”
