Tempur Welcomes Hideki Matsui As Brand Ambassador in Japan

Tempur has partnered with baseball star Hideki Matsui for its latest advertising campaign across Japan. This new campaign showcases how Tempur sleep supported Matsui throughout his demanding baseball career and into retirement. It will emphasize the benefits of Tempur Material, which helps reduce tossing and turning by relieving pressure points and helps minimize the transfer of motion between partners during the night.

“It is such a privilege to have Mr. Matsui as our brand ambassador in Japan,” said Kim Mortensen, managing director of Tempur Sealy Japan. “We knew that he loved our product for many years and we are honored that he takes his Tempur Pillow with him everywhere. This partnership is just a natural fit.”

Significant time differences, long travels and intense game schedules demanded deep rest and full recovery in order to play at the highest level. Matsui understood the importance of sleep and how it impacted his performance the next day. Despite intense travel during the season, he used his Tempur pillow whenever he could.

“Tempur has been with me since I moved to the U.S. in 2003,” Matsui explained. “I was anxious as I did not know what this new challenge would bring. In the U.S. we had a lot of games during the day, whereas baseball in Japan is primarily played at night. Furthermore, traveling is a lot longer with time differences, so to ensure I got a restful night’s sleep I used my Tempur pillow. Even since I retired, I cannot live without my Tempur pillow. Being able to have restful sleep and to wake up with a positive mindset is something that I owe to Tempur. It is an honor to be the Tempur Brand Ambassador in Japan.”

Matsui’s celebrated career started in Japan’s Nippon Professional league, where he earned All Star credits in nine out of his 10 seasons with the Yomiuri Giants. In 2003, Matsui turned his attention to Major League Baseball in the U.S. During his seven years with the New York Yankees, Matsui was named 2009 World Series Most Valuable Player--the first for a Japanese player--helping the Yankees to the title; and twice played in the All Star Game (2003 & 2004). On January 15, 2018 he became the youngest player to be inducted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame. Matsui continues to have an active philanthropic presence across varies causes, in addition to acting as a consultant for his former teams.
