Tempur-Pedic Outfits University of Kentucky With New Beds
Up to 9,000 University of Kentucky students will be assured a good night’s sleep in new residence halls to be constructed over the next few years, thanks to a collaboration between Tempur-Pedic® North America, LLC, a subsidiary of Tempur Sealy International, Inc., EdR, a leading owner, developer and manager of collegiate housing, and the University of Kentucky.
The collaboration supports a major initiative by the University of Kentucky to construct new student housing as part of a revitalization of its entire campus in Lexington. Tempur-Pedic and EdR have entered into a long-term agreement to provide between 7,500 and 9,000 new beds for residence halls that are being constructed by EdR over the next several years.
The first delivery of 601 Tempur-Pedic mattresses, for the new Central Hall I and II, took place between July 15 and August 2. A grand opening celebration will take place on August 16, followed by student move-in on August 23. In addition to the double-occupancy rooms in the LEEDSilver-targeted residence, the hall features three classrooms, two multipurpose rooms, 16 study rooms plus other living spaces.
“Tempur-Pedic was founded in Lexington, Kentucky, 20 years ago, so we have a deep affection for this state and the University of Kentucky. We even built our new headquarters recently on property owned by the university, at the Coldstream Research Campus. Now, we’re pleased to provide premium mattresses for new residence hall rooms, enabling students to get the rest they need as they pursue an education,” said Rick Anderson, president of Tempur-Pedic North America, LLC.
Another 2,300 Tempur-Pedic beds will eventually go to four additional residence halls that are spread across campus and under construction now. EdR will manage the new residence halls, which feature amenities to support student life including open spaces, meeting and study areas, and dining.
“Tempur-Pedic beds are well known for their comfort and livability,” said Randy Churchey, EdR president and chief executive officer. “We’re proud to offer this valuable amenity to our residents and proud to be associated with this quality brand.”
According to UK President, Eli Capilouto, “We know that students do much better academically when they live on campus, where they can engage more readily with faculty and in university life. We welcome this collaboration with Lexington-based Tempur-Pedic and EdR as we work together to transform our campus residence halls to meet the needs of our students.”
