Tempur-Pedic teamed up with national nonprofit Good360 and Louisiana-based Mattress Direct to distribute two truckloads of donated Tempur-Pedic mattresses and Mattress Direct mattress foundations to Hurricane Katrina survivors. More than 150 families received the donations, which were distributed at Camp ReStore on Chef Menteur Hwy in New Orleans.
The “Make It Home” Day of Service Distribution Event celebrated the official launch of Good360’s new DisasterRecovery360 platform. The Ford Foundation provided funding to cover transportation for those who are unable to provide their own, and City Year – Baton Rouge provided volunteers to distribute the mattresses and foundations.
“As a locally owned business, we understand the importance of community and lending a hand to our neighbors in need. For the nearly 15 years we have been in business, in New Orleans we are blessed to have partners like Tempur-Pedic who have supported our efforts in the local communities,” said Kim Burns of Mattress Direct. “Today, as we recognize the past ten years of rebuilding, we know that there are still New Orleanians who need a hand recovering from Katrina. We at Mattress Direct are proud to partner once again with Tempur-Pedic to help out the citizens of this great city we all hold so dear.”
The event spotlights the challenges of long-term disaster recovery. The new DisasterRecovery360 platform will enable Good360 to address immediate needs at the site of a disaster by distributing critical supplies quickly and efficiently both immediately following a disaster and throughout the full recovery process. Developed with support from Walmart and The UPS Foundation, DisasterRecovery360 officially launches on September 1st.
