Sleepy’s Neil Zimmer To Be Honored At GMFA Dinner and Dance In November

ZimmerThe Greater Metropolitan Home Furnishings Association (GMFA) announced that Neil Zimmer has been chosen as the recipient of the 2015 Jerry Gans Memorial Award.

Retailers, manufacturers, representatives and industry suppliers will gather for this annual event, a festive kick-off to the holiday season, on November 21st at The Palisadium, Cliffside Park, NJ, just minutes from the George Washington Bridge.

Neil Zimmer is Vice President - General Merchandise Manager at Sleepy's – “The Mattress Professionals” and other HMK Mattress Company brands. Sleepy’s is the largest bedding retailer in the northeast with over 1,000 showrooms. Zimmer has been a driving force, leading the company through expansion and development of the company.

“Its an honor to be this year’s recipient of the Gans Award,” says Zimmer.  “The GMFA members are my peers and family. They've been my partners from the time I owned a small business on Staten Island to my current position of Vice President-GMM  at Sleepy's.”

Previous to joining Sleepy's, Zimmer also held management positions at Huffman Koos and Fortunoff.

“Neil is one of the smartest guys in the furniture business, and also one of the nicest,” notes current GMFA president Andy Gans. “He’s a merchandising genius, and has always lent his support to good causes. The Gans award, named for my father Jerry Gans, is given to people who give honor and dignity to their profession. I can’t think of anyone more deserving.”

“In 2015,” adds Gans, “GMFA is also proud to honor Lenny Kharitonov and Tom Corrales with the Howard Liveright Award. Together, Tom and Lenny own and operate wholesaler Unlimited Furniture, and the fast growing online furniture retailer On November 22nd, as well, we will also celebrate the legacies of three of the greatly love gentlemen from our industry who passed away recently: George Massood, Joe Cory and Larry Gans.”

The GMFA Dinner and Dance presents an opportunity for retailers, reps, manufacturers and suppliers to network with industry friends while enjoying great food, an open bar, music and dancing.
