Select Comfort Closes Comfortaire Third-Party Retail Business

Select Comfort Corporation plans to close its Comfortaire third-party retail business as it prioritizes against its consumer innovation strategy, focusing on the advancement its technology with the Sleep Number 360 smart bed. The company stated that maintaining production of Comfortaire products would require significant additional investment to upgrade aging facilities. The Comfortaire brand will still be available via alternative channels. Select Comfort will honor customer warranties on all Comfortaire products.

The decision will affect 25 Comfortaire team members, primarily in South Carolina. The company hopes to find roles for some of the affected team members at other Select Comfort locations.

Select Comfort purchased Comfortaire in January 2013. It was an important acquisition for the company, expanding its intellectual property with addition of assets like FlexTop technology, and the SleepIQ brand. Since the purchase, Select Comfort has operated Comfortaire as a separate brand, selling Comfortaire products through third-party retail partners.
