Malouf Foundation Pushes OnWatch Training For Month Of July

In recognition of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, the Malouf Foundation is encouraging retailers to take the OnWatch training during the month of July. This campaign will take the place of Forging Freedom at the upcoming Las Vegas Market.

What Is OnWatch?

OnWatch is a free, digital, survivor-led training designed to help users spot, report and prevent sex trafficking in the United States. Through true survivor experiences, industry experts explain the key indicators of trafficking, as well as how users can support a survivor’s path to freedom.

The core OnWatch curriculum consists of 10 modules and takes about one hour to complete at IAmOnWatch.org. Once finished, users receive a certificate of completion and social media badge to share with their friends and family. Additional modules are available for continued education.

“We introduced OnWatch to the industry almost four years ago, and we’ve seen amazing support since then,” said Jake Neeley, executive director of the Malouf Foundation, one of the founding partners of OnWatch. “Education and awareness are key to combating trafficking, and we want to train as many people as possible.”

What Industry Members Who Have Taken The Training Are Saying

“Our consultants jumped on board to take the OnWatch training. Eighty percent of the feedback we received after they took the training was the shock that trafficking is happening in our own communities,” said Misty Kirby, co-founder of Paparazzi Accessories. “The thought that the child next door could be trafficked called our company to action.”

Another business leader, Barry Whitehead of Legacy Logistics, shared, “My team has experienced the unpredicted benefits of the OnWatch training. It has softened our hearts, strengthened our culture and created a more engaged team. We stand for something bigger than any one of us could individually.”

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons was initiated by the United Nations General Assembly and is observed every day on July 30. If you suspect trafficking in your community, report a tip to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. If you or someone else needs immediate help, call 9-1-1 or the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673.

About Malouf Foundation: Formalized in 2016 and operating out of Logan, Utah, the Malouf Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to confronting child sexual exploitation, specifically sex trafficking and online abuse. The Foundation fulfills their mission by providing education through OnWatch and Smart Defense; promoting healing through the Juniper Scholarship, Rooms Restored, and restorative care centers; and advocating for survivors through Heroes Landing and the “We Believe You” campaign. In January 2022, the Elizabeth Smart Foundation officially became a part of the Malouf Foundation to broaden the impact of both organizations. Supported by the network of Malouf Companies, the Malouf Foundation gives 100 percent of its resources on behalf of the people it serves.

About OnWatch: Launched in 2020 by the Malouf Foundation and Safe House Project, OnWatch is a survivor-led and informed education platform that empowers people to spot, report and prevent sex trafficking in the United States. A registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, OnWatch is dedicated to increasing survivor identification and protecting future generations from victimization. To date, OnWatch has trained tens of thousands of individuals nationwide through its community training, advocacy program and industry-specific courses. The Malouf Foundation and Safe House Project were united by the shared view that survivors should have the strongest voice in combating trafficking.
