Bedding Wholesale Revenue Hits Record High

The International Sleep Products Association (ISPA) has released its 2015 Mattress Industry Report of Sales and Trends along with the first issue of its Bedding Market Quarterly for Q1 2016. Both reports gauge the health of the sleep industry markets; the Mattress Industry Report of Sales and trends contains comprehensive current and historical data on the mattress industry’s performance while the Bedding Market Quarterly focuses on quarterly and year-to-date mattress market data obtained from a large percentage of the U.S. mattress industry.

“This year’s [annual] report shows that the industry continues to grow, with the 2015 wholesale value of mattresses and foundations made and sold in the United States exceeding $8 billion for the first time,” noted ISPA President Ryan Trainer.  “For 100 years, ISPA has been the source for industry data.  The 2015 Annual Report continues this tradition by providing the most comprehensive and accurate sales information available for the mattress industry. The report helps ISPA members, mattress retailers and those in the financial sector track key business trends and make important commercial and investment decisions.”

Earlier this month, ISPA also published the inaugural edition of its new Bedding Market Quarterly. The Q1 report offered less positive news than the 2015 Annual Report, with data stating that bedding units were down by 2.3%, mattress units dropped 1% and foundation units were down by 4%.  However, ISPA notes that these foundation numbers do not include the fast-growing category of adjustable bases.

While there doesn't appear to be a clear reason for the downturn, some have speculated that as the sleep industry continues to rapidly evolve and change, vendors and retailers may have opted for more conservative and less aggressive business strategies.
