Serta has officially made the switch towards more renewable materials, revealing that the flexible polyurethane foam used in all its mattresses manufactured in the United States and Canada are now certified through the CertiPUR-US program.
A not-for-profit certification program, CertiPUR-US focuses specifically on flexible polyurethane foam used in bedding and upholstered furniture—using analysis from independent, accredited testing laboratories. In order to receive the certification, foams must meet rigorous standards for content, emissions and durability.
“Consumers can rest confidently, knowing that all Serta mattresses and foundations that are available for purchase in stores and online today contain flexible polyurethane foam that is certified,” said Andrew Gross, Serta senior vice president of marketing. “The comfort of our customers has always been paramount and today, comfort goes beyond physical properties to include feeling good about the products we bring into our homes.”
As one of the foremost mattress brands in the world, Serta’s announcement not only marks a major shift in the public interest in safer, more eco-friendly materials—but an increased consumer demand for transparency and accountability from manufacturers.
“Consumers’ interest in certified foam for bedding and upholstered furniture has risen dramatically in recent years,” explained Mike Crowell, CertiPUR-US program executive director, “and Serta’s participation in the program is a huge milestone for the program as a whole.”
