Tempur-Pedic Helps Raise Awareness For One List, One Life

Chris Betancourt

One List One Life was started by two best friends, 20-year-old Chris Betancourt and 19-year-old Dillon Hill, when Chris was told that without a bone marrow transplant he’d have limited time to live. Chris was in the midst of his second fight with Chronic Mylogenous Leukemia and was eager to raise awareness around the need for bone marrow donations, especially as he searched for his own life-saving match. His best friend Dillon was eager to help Chris live his potential last year to the fullest. So Dillon had Chris write a bucket list.

When Tempur-Pedic heard about Chris’ fight they immediately looked-for ways to help and they didn’t have to look far because on his bucket list was item #125: Get a New Bed, a no-brainer for the brand. While the request for a new bed among asks like lifting weights with The Rock and being in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade might seem a bit odd, it made perfect sense to Tempur-Pedic, a brand that makes thousands of donations each year to give deserving individuals life changing sleep. In fact, Tempur-Pedic has donated more than 20,000 beds per year for the past several years and in 2017 marked its 100,000th donated bed.

When you’re sick, your bed is your safe haven. Chris had outgrown his childhood bed and his feet were hanging off the end of his bed, making it difficult for him to be comfortable and get much-needed rest. Tempur-Pedic flew Chris’ two best friends Dillon and Clay out to the Tempur-Pedic manufacturing plant in Albuquerque, NM to help surprise Chris by building him a new bed and captured it all on video.

Tempur-Pedic also threw support behind Chris’ #LemonsforLeukemia initiative to mark off bucket list item #4: Break the World Record for Most Bone Marrow Donation Sign Ups in One Day. Tempur-Pedic supplied a mattress as a giveaway incentive to garner sign ups (check out the video Tempur-Pedic filmed with Chris and Dillon here at a Sacramento RC Willey store). With the help of Good Morning AmericaDr. Oz and social influencers like Casey Neistat, they broke the record with 3,715 sign ups on March 1st, 2018!

In addition to some of the amazing achievements that were part of Chris’ bucket list, his story has a happy ending. One List, One Life recently released a short documentary announcing the good news that Chris found a bone marrow match and is awaiting the surgery that will save his life. The documentary includes footage from the visit to the Tempur-Pedic manufacturing plant.

“We were thrilled to be able to contribute to Chris’ journey of finding a bone marrow match and helping others along the way,” said Tempur Sealy International Senior Manager, Public Relations and Corporate Communications, Rick Maynard. “We know that Chris’ new Tempur-Pedic will be a big part of his recovery since his favorite past time is playing video games from the comfort of his bed.”
