Hundreds receive help as recovery efforts continue
Mattress Firm came to its hometown’s aid as the Houston area continues to suffer the effects of the flooding earlier this month. In response to the tragedy, Mattress Firm has established a Flood Relief Program to help victims get a good night’s rest by replacing their damaged mattresses. On June 6, 2015, Mattress Firm kicked off the program at an event held at the Meyerland Plaza store. The program gives qualifying customers a $700 in-store credit to be used towards the purchase of a new mattress or any bedding accessories.
“Mattress Firm was born and bred in Houston and so was I,” said Mattress Firm CEO Steve Stagner. “We knew we wanted to help our hometown recover and the need to establish the Flood Relief Program became clear as we saw coverage of mattresses piled high in damaged neighborhoods. As members of the Houston community, we want to do our part to make sure our neighbors, friends, colleagues and families stay positive and get a good night’s sleep as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives.”
At the event held at the Meyerland Plaza Mattress Firm store, 70 volunteers helped 214 Houston residents claim their store credits or carry home their new mattresses. Breakfast was catered by Whataburger and free childcare was provided for families waiting to claim their credits. The event also included a pillow give-away sponsored by PureCare and representatives from Palais Royale/Bealls were onsite passing out $25 gift cards to flood victims. The event also featured a check presentation for Mattress Firm’s $50,000 donation to the Red Cross of Central Texas. The donation is designated for recovery efforts for the Spring Storm 2015 to extend aid to Texans outside the Houston area. Together, the check donation and the Mattress Firm Flood Relief Program has helped the Red Cross almost double the amount of assistance they are able to provide to flood victims.
“We are so grateful for generous supporters like Mattress Firm who step up to help during tragedies like the recent floods and tornado,” said Steve Vetrano, Chief Executive Officer, Texas Gulf Coast Region, American Red Cross. “Due to their support, we are able to provide immediate relief to those affected through shelters, meals, hygiene kits and clean up supplies.”
The Mattress Firm Flood Relief Program will continue to be available for those unable to attend last Saturday’s event through August 31, 2015 at www.mattressfirm.com/houstonflood. Applicants will be asked to present proof of damage such as Red Cross cases numbers and FEMA identification numbers among others. The store credit is redeemable through December 31, 2015.
