First Mattresses Roll Off Line At King Koil Arizona Plant

Local civic and business leaders recently joined King Koil executives to unveil the brand's newly opened facility in Avondale, Arizona. Serving the company’s Western retail partners, the 90,000-square-foot building and 50 employees are the linchpin of King Koil’s new domestic manufacturing business model.

“This is an exciting day for King Koil–our own plant with our people producing high quality products for our consumers. It is part of our historic transformation into a direct-to-retail strategy that we kicked off at the Winter Las Vegas Furniture Market only a few months ago,” said David Binke, chief executive officer of King Koil. “I am grateful to our leadership team and employees for all their hard work in getting this plant ready and operational. I am also thankful to the mayor and all the city officials of Avondale who have welcomed us with open arms since we decided to open a plant here. We look forward to playing an important role in this terrific community.”

As a part of that strategy of community involvement, Binke announced King Koil will donate 14 new mattresses to outfit two Avondale fire stations.

The local King Koil plant will serve retail partners in 17 states: Arizona, Arkansas, Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

In addition to manufacturing, the new facility houses offices for management and customer service, as well as a sophisticated audio-visual conference room that connects King Koil’s offices around the country for meetings. A 2,500-square-foot showroom is also located in the facility and provides presentation space for the company’s national product line.

King Koil announced plans earlier this year to shift its domestic business model from a licensing structure to a direct-to-retail manufacturing strategy. As part of the change, the company formed a strategic partnership with long-time licensee Blue Bell Mattress that will continue to serve King Koil retail partners in the East and Midwest with the company’s product.

What started out as six employees in a small factory has continued to grow. During the 1930s, U.S. Bedding improved the bedspring and was looking for a new name for its product. From there, the King Koil name was born.
