The Dream Bed, a new bed-in-a-box brand from Mattress Firm Holding Corp., will launch online at dreambed.com on Oct. 1, 2015, kicking off a nationwide "Buy a Dream. Give a Dream." mattress donation effort. Customers who purchase a Dream Bed will ensure one twin bed is donated to a child or family in need. Registration for The Dream Bed early bird exclusive offer is available online today through September 30.
"We set out to create a wildly comfortable bed at a great value that could be ordered online and shipped quickly. Then, we challenged ourselves to make The Dream Bed even better. Dream Bed customers will not only sleep better on their new mattress, but they will have peace of mind knowing they helped someone in need get a better night's sleep and brighter days," said Ken Murphy, who was named president of Mattress Firm on Friday.
Murphy turned to Dan Dietz, vice president of digital at Mattress Firm, to lead an employee innovation team to advance the concept of The Dream Bed as part of the company's strategic omni-channel retail plan. The team's mission was to create the best bed-in-a-box product on the market, while creating a meaningful connection with new customers.
"We are all extremely passionate about improving sleep," said Dietz. "With The Dream Bed, we've combined the energy of a young, startup team with the resources of the nation's largest mattress retailer. Through customer feedback and an iterative, time-tested approach, we've created an incredibly comfortable mattress worthy of the name The Dream Bed. With our "Buy a dream. Give a dream." campaign we are going to be able to make a massive impact on people's lives."
The Dream Bed will come in two models – The Dream Bed Original and The Dream Bed Cool – which features a built-in cooling layer. The Dream Bed Cool will be the first temperature cooling bed-in-a-box on the market – an area where The Dream Bed innovation team noted the lack of choices in the category. Both versions will feature memory foam and latex foam interiors to provide a comfortable sleep experience. A queen-sized Dream Bed Original will cost $829 with the queen-sized Dream Bed Cool priced at $999.
"By creating a convenient shopping experience and a way to give back, we believe the idea has the potential to resonate with a new generation of shoppers that not only demand better products, but a better world," added Dietz.
Backed by a "180 Day No Nightmare Guarantee," The Dream Bed will be delivered to most U.S. cities within two business days. In the coming year, The Dream Bed will also be available in store in select markets across the country.
The Dream Bed will be donated in partnership with non-profits across the country. Local community giving events are already scheduled for October and November.
