While the nation’s economy remains in question, the bedding and mattress industry continues to do well. ISPA’s recent cost survey reports modest sales increases over 2009. Furthermore, top ten producer, Sealy, reported first quarter sales 10.6% higher than the same quarter in 2010!

Expansion and growth also abound—Shifman Mattresses upgraded its New Jersey manufacturing facility, E.S. Kluft & Company expanded adding a sizeable plant here on the east coast and Wright of Thomasville’s expanded operations in North Carolina.
The focus at the World Market Center Las Vegas summer market seems to be green with a number of companies from Spring Air, Naturepedic, NaturaWorld, Therapedic, Aireloom, and numerous others making introductions and changes to product lines to provide more natural options.
Latex also continues to be an exciting category of opportunity. With Latex International’s partnership with PureLatex BLISS and FXi’s, formerly known as Foamex, recent investment in Anatomic Global, we are certain to see exciting configurations and advances in latex technologies.
Supporting retailers by providing more information and transparency to consumers remains of utmost importance. Several manufacturers including Diamond Mattress, Classic Brands and Fabrictech International have introduced new web sites and social media campaigns allowing consumers the opportunity to better understand their products before heading to the store.
The industry continues to impress with their generosity too, Earl Kluft, of E.S. Kluft & Company, was recently honored with the City of Hope Lifetime Achievement Award; Pasquale Natuzzi of Natuzzi, Kathy Ireland of Kathy Ireland Worldwide and Gary Fazio of Simmons were honored at the Anti-Defamation League’s annual awards tribute dinner. The ADL recognized the trio’s commitment to the organization’s mission of protecting civil rights and defending democratic ideals in the US.
